On 12-16 May 2024, the project team undertook a study visit to Strasbourg, during which team members deepened their knowledge of the functioning of the European human rights protection system.
During the trip, the team held talks with Andrzej Mancewicz, advisor to the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe (about the Commissioner’s activities); with Marek Sosnowski, lawyer at the Chancellery of the European Court of Human Rights (about the most common problems faced by citizens in the process of filing complaints at the ETPC); with Marta Mędlińska, representative of the Secretariat of the Council of Europe (on the youth policies of the Council of Europe, in particular in the field of promoting the principles of democracy and human rights); with Margaret Platon, representative of the Education Department of the Council of Europe; with Patricia Ötvös, from the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe (on the work of the Commissioner and the Council of Europe on the rights of people with disabilities); with Marta Hirsch-Ziembińska, from the Office of the The European Ombudsman (on the methodology of the EU Ombudsmen's work); and with Iwona Marczyk Stępniewska - Minister Plenipotentiary at the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the Council of Europe. The team also met with Professor Peggy Ducoulombier at the Faculty of Law of the University of Strasbourg, a renowned human rights lawyer who works with the European Court of Human Rights. During these meetings, team members acquired a lot of valuable information about the behind-the-scenes and problems of the functioning of human rights protection systems in Europe.
The knowledge acquired will be used to better prepare subsequent educational activities planned in the project (open lectures, webinars) and to prepare scientific papers to be presented at the international conference on human rights planned for 2025 and published in a collective monograph.
