INSTITUTE OF POLITICAL SCIENCE AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

University of Siedlce

April 10, 2024 at 4:00 p.m., an academic debate took place at the Faculty of Social Sciences entitled: "Do we need new human rights?". The debate was organized in cooperation with the Polish Philosophical Society, Siedlce Branch. Introductions to the debate were given by: prof. Arkadiusz Indraszczyk in the field of human rights development and basic income as a potential new human right and prof. Cezary Kalita in the field of robot rights and artificial intelligence and the needs of protecting people related to the problem of robotics.

The scientific dispute that accompanies the debate usually opens new fields for consideration. If the debate concerns a topic such as human rights, the catalog of which is open, suddenly there are many topics to discuss and many points of view.

The debate included arguments for and against the introduction of a basic income, although the shortcoming of the proposal was highlighted in the form of the name "basic income", which turned out to be too broad and ambiguous. The debate showed that the problem being discussed is important, but still requires many analyzes and experiments on a national scale, preferably in several countries at the same time.

The problem of artificial intelligence, robots, and granting them rights and human rights in this regard has turned out to be even more controversial.

Together with the Polish Philosophical Society, Siedlce Branch, we decided that we would organize at least two more debates on working topics: human rights and animal rights, and a citizen in a democratic state - a co-owner of the state or a modern slave? We will inform you about the dates of the debates in advance.
